Hoot Owl again

Yesterday, I met Thierry at Lake Crabtree and he showed me some of the best
vantage points for bird watching around the lake. He also took me to Brier
Creek. Thanks, Thierry!

I really learned a lot from him about ID’ing waterfowl and got some new birds on
my list. At the dam, Thierry used his scope to count 370 Hooded Mergansers.
Meadow larks were singing. I like watching these larks come in to land, like
hang-gliders or para-sailers aiming for a drop zone.

Later in the afternoon, I walked around my favorite park, near to home, and was
surprised to hear, around 4:20pm, the hoo hoo hoos of the GH owl. The is the 2nd
time I’ve heard the owl in the park, same location. Usually it’s just barred
owls that occur here. The sun was already low and streaming through slots in the
pines along the eastern edge of the lake and there was no other sound but the
